About My Music Journey

Hi, I’m Bryce Weech and I’ve been playing guitar, bass, keys and drums for over 30 years.

I started on guitar when I was 13 (12 maybe?) my parents got me an electric guitar and lessons for Christmas. I didn’t even know I wanted to play guitar at that point, but picked it right up and loved it. I took lessons until I learned power chords and barre chords and the blues minor pentatonic scale for soloing and was like “That’s all I need!” so stopped with the lessons. Rock n Roll only needs 3 (2?) chords and some pentatonic riffs and you can play just about anything. Of course, that’s not true, but having that foundation at least sent me in the right direction to be able to fake it well enough and continue learning on my own.

When I was in middle school, we played the talent show (Nirvana and Hendrix songs) and I ended up with a borrowed drum set at my house. I started tinkering around on the drums and found I was getting pretty good at it so some friends started a little punk band with me on drums the next year in high school. The drum set had to go back to its home and we had a gig the next week. My parents to the rescue! we went down to American Music in Seattle and picked up the most economical set available: a white 5-piece Pearl Export kit with chrome snare drum. Some crappy Zildjian Scimitar cymbals and we were in business! I still have that drum set and cymbals to this day (the ride is actually pretty cool sounding, but the rest are still garbage).

More to come!
